Led by the skipper Shaban Mohammad, Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) was well represented as the Hippos picked vital three points against Zambia in the opening game of the COSAFA U20 Youth Championship on Wednesday.
Playing against the hosts Zambia in Kitwe, Shaban Mohammad scored two second half goals in a game that had enterprising full back Mustafa Kizza playing at left back.
Utility player Julius Poloto was deployed at the right side of midfield, and Allan Okello came off the bench to replace Pius Obuya on the left side of midfield midway the first half.
Donning the armband, Shaban led by example, asking the Zambian defense all sorts of questions throughout the first but not getting the answers as he combined well with the support cast of Poloto, Kizza and Okello.
After a goalless first half, Shaban put Uganda ahead six minutes into the second period when he netted from a tight angle after turning home Steven Mukyala’s cross from the right to stun the sizeable home crowd.
Shaban who has scored six goals in four league outings for KCCA FC doubled his side’s lead three minutes later with another neat finish off a long kick by custodian Said Keni who also put up a spirited performance in goal
Patrick Phiri of Malawi is the other with two goals in at a championship Uganda is playing as guest nation and leads Group A with three points, joint top with Malawi but with a superior goal difference.
