Manager lauds Bukenya as midfielder wins Uganda Cup MVP gong

KCCA FC midfielder Lawrence Bukenya was voted best player of the 2017 FUFA Uganda Cup

Throughout his distinguished career the Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) gaffer has never shied away from giving young players a chance.

While he has sometimes been criticised for the stance, his firm belief has bore fruits as the club won the league title last year before clinching a first ever domestic double following the 2-0 win over Paidha Black Angels.

Key to that has been the elevation of the team’s academy players particularly this season.

Julius Poloto, Allan Okello, Peter Magambo Noel Nasasira, Mustafa Kizza and Lawrence Bukenya  have all flourished.

On Thursday, Lawrence Bukenya who had made three appearances in the competition showed too that he is ready to stake his claim for a regular first team slot with a man of the match performance.

“He was fantastic, the best player, man of the match, his understanding of the game for a young player. You could see how he was conducting the game,” the manager told www.kccafc.co.ug, he added.

“He reads the game well, he keeps the team in shape. He is one of the young players coming in and one to add on the Poloto and Okello.

There was to be further good news with Bukenya who made  a number of vital interceptions as well as initiating attacks was voted as the MVP of the 2017 Uganda Cup edition.

The accolade was among a number of individual rewards for the team with the manager earning the competition’s best manager award while Derrick Nsibambi won the top scorer’s boot.

His second goal in the 2-0 Cup final win over Paidha was his seventh in the Cup with striking partner Geoffrey Sserunkuma who got the first finishing with five to his name.
