Mutyaba, Nsibambi star to hand Cranes first leg advantage over Rwanda

Muzamir Mutyaba (10) celebrates his first against Rwanda on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende

Cranes will take a healthy lead into next week’s Chan final qualifying return leg game against Rwanda following a 3-0 win on Saturday at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

The result owed much to stellar performances from a Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) duo of Muzamir Mutyaba and Derrick Nsibambi.

The midfielder and striker respectively scored a brace and a goal at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday August 12th, 2017.

First, Mutyaba got the game’s opening goal from the penalty spot after Derrick Nsibambi was needlessly fouled by Rwandan defender Aimable Nsabimana in the box.

The KCCA number 10 stepped up to convert coolly past the despairing  Rwandan goalkeeper Marcel Nzarora in the 14th minute.

The Cranes continued to attack and got the second goal, a beauty by all standards, just after the half way point of the opening period.

Moses Waiswa chest controlled cooly in the midfield before picking up Nicholas Wadada who found Mutyaba in the opposition box who then played a delightful give and go with Milton Karisa before applying an assured finish.

The Cranes then went into the break with a 2-0 lead but were soon three goals up to the good when the lively Karisa combined with Mutyaba and Wadada before tumbling under a challenge.

The ball fell into Nsibambi’s path and the striker showed  his quality by curling the ball away from Nzarora for the game’s third goal six minutes into the second half.

They then held on, with the defense marshaled by Paul Musamali and the ever consistent Isaac Muleme

Forward Paul Mucureezi also came on in the second half and while he was unable to replicate the four goal haul against South Sudan in the previous round, he put in an impressive shift.

The two teams meet in the second leg next week with the winner qualifying for the finals due in Kenya next year.
