Skipper Dennis Oola Okot could not hide his joy after captaining Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) to this year’s Total CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Okot was full of praise for teammates and the technical team after KCCA edged past Egypt’s Al Masry 4-3 on penalties in the return leg played at Ismailia Stadium on Saturday after a 1-1 aggregate score over the two legs.
The skipper indicated it was a dream come true for them because the target right from the start was to make it to the group stage of continental tournaments.
“I’m so excited as the captain, leading the team to the group stage of CAF Confederation Cup. It was a dream for everyone, the players, technical team and the fans,” Okot intimated to www.kccafc.co.ug.
Okot indicated that despite KCCA dropping from the Total CAF Champions League, it was never the end of the road as they kept believing they would attain the target of playing in the group stage on the continent.
“We got eliminated from the CAF Champions League but our hearts did not frown, we kept believing and remained focused because we had a target to achieve,” he noted.
Additionally, Okot who has played all the six games on the continent, believes the urge to set the record of becoming the first team to reach the group stage pushed them to “work harder.”
KCCA now shift focus to the league with a home fixture against URA this Wednesday.
