Shaban, Nsibambi Score To Keep Title Chase Alive – UPL

Shaban Muhammad and Derrick Nsibambi scored a goal each to keep KCCA FC title hopes alive in a tightly contested Lugogo derby played at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

Shaban broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half with an amazing back heel goal that went past custodian Saidi Keni while Nsibambi thumped in a diving header in added time after 90 minutes of play both goals sending the home crowd in a frenzy of celebrations.

 

Julius Poloto was a thorn to the Proline FC defense in the game.

The first chance of the match went to KCCA FC when Julius Poloto produced a menacing cross which Jackson Nunda headed inches wide.

Under pressure from Timothy Awany, Proline’s Daniel Isiagi cut inside and laid the ball off to David Owori who unleashed a shot on goal, but his effort was comfortably gathered by Charles Lukwago.

On 38 minutes, Shaban Muhammad produced the best effort of the opening stanza, a dipping effort from 20 yards which looked destined for goal but Saidi Keni tremendously saved.

Three minutes from halftime Kiiza’s effort from distance rose harmlessly over the opponent’s crossbar.

With the game at a stalemate after the opening 45 minutes, there was plenty to improve after the interval. Muzamiru Mutyaba returning from an ankle injury was introduced for Lawrence Bukenya to add fluidity in midfield.

Hardly had he come on when his sweeping move led to a series of mistakes from the opponents defense and Shaban capitalized to give KCCA FC the lead with a beautiful goal four minutes into the second half.

Later, Derrick Nsibambi was introduced in place of Jackson Nunda and the cameo immediately showed his worth, stringing passes to teammates and making mazy runs that troubled the opponents on the evening.

With KCCA FC on the front foot, buoyed by the fact that three points would get them in the second place and keep the title chase on, Poloto took matters in his hands and released Mutyaba with a beautiful pass, the play maker shooting straight into the hands of the goalkeeper.

On 72 minutes, Sadam Ibrahim Juma returning from a one and half months injury lay off came on for Isaac Kirabira. The midfielder immediately showing  his capabilities with good movement on and off the ball and with the killer pass.

As two minutes of added time got underway, KCCA FC got the second goal from Nsibambi’s diving header that went straight into the net and ensuring the hosts won the Lugogo derby in deserved manner.

2-0  the final score, KCCA FC climbing to second spot with 54 points, five points off the log leaders but with a game in hand.

KCCA FC’s next game will be against Al Ahly of Egypt in the CAF Champions League at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Tuesday 15th May 2018.
