On the afternoon of April 26, 2023, tragic news hit the KCCA FC and the football community at large.

The lifelong chairman of our club, John Mutenda, has passed away.

Born on June 26, 1949, Mutenda was KCCA FC to the core.

In the 1980s and 1990s, he served as a member of the KCCA FC executive.

He became Vice Chairman to Abraham Byandala in 1993 until 1996.

He returned in the mid-2000s to serve as Vice Chairman to Godfrey Kiseka and was instrumental in securing finances for the club during dire times from the Kampala Central Division, where he served as Godfrey Nyakana’s deputy mayor.

Mutenda was commonly known as “Abiola” (after Nigerian wealthy Chief known as Abiola). During his hey days at the club, he was known to have deep pockets.

According to a close family source, a prayer service will be held at the late Mutenda’s residence in Kololo on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 6 p.m., and burial will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 2 p.m., in Masulita.
