Fulltime: Buhimba United Saints 0-2 KCCA FC

Time: 4:00 PM EAT

Venue: The Royals Park – Butema, Hoima

KCCA FC continued their impressive form with a 2-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints FC away from home. A goal in each half from forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe ensured the Cityzens returned to Kampala with all three points.

KCCA FC showed its intent from the opening whistle.

Just five minutes in, Ivan Ahimbisibwe nearly opened the scoring, heading a long ball from Gavin Kizito narrowly wide.

The pressure mounted in the 9th minute when Shafik Kwikiriza was brought down on the edge of the box by Buhimba’s Maxwell; however, Jamil Kiyimba produced a fantastic save to deny Ashraf Mugume from the resulting free kick.

Buhimba showed flashes of danger in the 21st minute when Anwar Ntege beat Walusimbi on the flank to find Emmanuel Biseki, but the effort lacked accuracy.

KCCA responded quickly, with a trademark long throw from Kizito finding Kwikiriza, who teed up Mugume for a first-time strike that was again parried by the busy Kiyimba.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 42nd minute. Joel Sserunjogi delivered a searching long ball to Saidi Mayanja, who expertly set up Ahimbisibwe. The hunter made no mistake, firing past Kiyimba to give the Cityzens a deserved 1-0 lead heading into the break.

KCCA’s technical team opted for early changes after the restart, introducing Kennedy Muserero for his club debut and Rogers Mugisha for Mayanja and Kwikiriza.

Buhimba United searched for an equalizer in the 55th minute, but Mutwalibi Mugolofa was equal to Anwar Ntege’s header.

At the other end, Muserero nearly doubled the lead with a moment of brilliance, lobbing his marker before stinging the palms of goalkeeper Kiyimba.

As the game grew tense, Mugolofa’s decision-making proved vital. In the 70th minute, the KCCA custodian raced off his line to thwart a dangerous run from Swadik Moro, maintaining the clean sheet.

To freshen up the midfield and attack for the closing stages, Bright Anukani and Alex Yiga replaced Mugume and Lazaro Muhindo.

The tactical shift paid dividends in the 87th minute. Anukani delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Ahimbisibwe, who composed himself to slot home his second of the evening and put the game beyond doubt.

Despite late cautions for Buhimba’s Malongo Mpia for a foul on Alex Yiga and a caution for KCCA’s Ashraf Mugume before he left the pitch, the Cityzens remained disciplined to see out the 2-0 win.

The Cityzens return to Lugogo this Friday, 6th March, to face Police FC under the floodlights.
