KCCA FC suffered defeat in the final game of the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League 2023/24 season.

A goal in each half gave the the hosts the maximum points.

A first half error from Rogers Atube gifted Kimera an opportunity to put the hosts ahead in the 24th minute.

Earlier, in the 16th minute, Usama Arafat’s free kick was headed wide by Atube with the goal at his mercy.

In the 39th minute, Peter Magambo’s cross was cleared away by Wakiso’s Kagogwe. The ball would then fall into Ettiene path who teed up Usama but his effort was saved by Ssekagya.

With three minutes of normal time left in the opening stanza, Abdallah Mubiru rung changes, introducing Bruno Adilson, Ashraf Mugume and Saidi Mayanja for Rogers Atube, Peter Magambo and Gui Cungulo.

After recess, Wakiso’s skipper Hassan Ssenyonjo and defender Ssenkungu were cautioned for dangerous play.

In the 58th minute, Usama missed a chance to level the tie after Shaban had laid a beautiful ball on his stronger foot.

At the hour mark, Wakiso doubled their lead courtesy of Samson Kigozi who tapped home from a spilled ball of the goal keeper Derrick Ochan.

Wakiso’s goal keeper was cautioned for time wasting antics with a quarter an hour to play.

KCCA FC’s search for a goal had the team play more in the hosts’ half for the most of the second stanza.

In the 81st minute, Joel Sserunjogi’s cross was headed inches wide by Shaban Muhammad.

In the 84th minute, a lapse in the hosts’ defense saw Saidi Mayanja capitalize on a mistake inside the box by Wakiso’s Arinda but the former’s effort flew inches wide.

Ashraf Mugume halved the deficit at the death of the game off a well struck free kick but the come back was a little too late for the Cityzens.

2-1 the final score.
