- Competition: Stanbic Uganda Cup (Quarter Final)
- Date: Saturday, 4th April 2026

It was a rollercoaster of emotions at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, as KCCA FC’s Uganda Cup journey came to a jarring halt. Despite maintaining a strong lead for most of the match, the Cityzens witnessed their advantage diminish in the final moments of regulation time, ultimately succumbing 4-2 on penalties to a URA FC team after a 2-2 draw.
The atmosphere was electric from the first whistle, and the away fans didn’t have to wait long to erupt. Just three minutes into the encounter, Saidi Mayanja ghosted into the box to meet a pinpoint Herbert Achayi cross, nodding it home to give KCCA an early 1-0 lead.
The first half was a feisty affair, characterised by tactical fouls and rising tensions. Joel Sserunjogi and URA’s Bright Vuni both saw yellow cards as the midfield battle intensified. In the 35th minute, KCCA had a chance to increase their lead when Sammy Ssebaduka passed the ball to Ivan Ahimbisibwe, but Vuni’s heroic recovery clearance kept the Tax Collectors in the game as they headed into the break.
The second half began with KCCA hunting for a cushion. After Alex Yiga saw a goal-bound free kick cleared off the line, the pressure finally told in the 55th minute. Following a foul on Mayanja at the edge of the area, Herbert Achayi stepped up and curled a magnificent free kick into the back of the net, making it 2-0.

At that point, KCCA looked to be cruising. Goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa played his part shortly after, pulling off a finger-tip save to deny James Begisa’s dipping effort.
To freshen up the legs, the KCCA technical bench introduced Rogers Mugisha and Ashraf Mugume for Mayanja and Yiga in the 75th minute.
Momentum shifted unexpectedly in the 84th minute. A long-range effort from URA’s John Kisolo took a wicked deflection off substitute Ashraf Mugume, wrong-footing Mugolofa and trickling into the net.
With the score at 2-1, URA threw the kitchen sink at the KCCA defense. The heartbreak for the Cityzens came in stoppage time. Bright Vuni turned provider, swinging in a free kick that found Ronald Otti, who rose highest to head home the equaliser and silence the home crowd.
The game headed into a grueling 30 minutes of extra time. Fatigue set in, and despite KCCA making an injury-forced substitution by bringing on Axel Mezui for the newly introduced Sharifu Ssengendo, neither side could find the decisive blow.
As the referee blew for the end of extra time, the fate of the tie moved to the penalty spot.
While Ashraf Mugume and Joel Sserunjogi stayed cool to convert their spot-kicks, both Enock Walusimbi and Herbert Achayi missed their attempts. URA won the shootout, 4-2, to secure their spot in the next round.
