KCCA FC dug deep to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC. The Cityzens showed exceptional defensive resilience and capitalised on the one opportunity that truly mattered.

The match began with both sides tussling each other out under the Entebbe sun. KCCA’s Ivan Ahimbisibwe provided the first moment of offensive promise in the 15th minute, finding space for an ambitious effort that unfortunately sailed over the crossbar.

In the 26th minute, the travelling fans held their breath as UPPC’s Kigozi unleashed a goal-bound strike. Mutwalibi Mugolofa produced a fantastic reflex save to keep the scoreline level.

As the intensity ramped up, so did the referee’s involvement. A momentary flare up in that same minute saw KCCA’s Gavin Kizito and UPPC’s Isa Bugembe both enter the referee’s book with early cautions.

Goalless at the break.

In the 52nd minute, just after recess, Ahimbisibwe was hacked down by Musitafa Mujuzi, earning KCCA a promising free kick. Ahimbisibwe took the responsibility himself, but his effort again lacked the dip required to trouble the keeper.

The game became a bit of a midfield scrap, with Lazaro Muhindo and Musitafa Mujuzi both receiving yellow cards as the pressure mounted. But then came the breakthrough.

The defining moment came in the 71st minute. The “Boy from Canada”, Sammy Ssebaduka, reacted with lightning speed to a delivery from Joel Sserunjogi. The former peeled away from the onrushing UPPC goalkeeper and expertly headed the ball into the back of the net.

The closing stages were a demonstration of the backline’s discipline.

Skipper Gavin Kizito commanded the defensive unit with Fillbert Obenchan, Hassan Muhamud, and Lazaro Muhindo with poise and tireless cover, ensuring that every UPPC foray was met with a wall of yellow and blue.

Despite a late caution for UPPC’s Isa Mubiru following a foul on the energetic Muhindo, the Cityzens never looked like wobbling.

1-0 the final score. KCCA FC grabbing the win in Bugonga.

The Cityzens now turn their focus to a long journey to the West Nile. They face Calvary FC in Yumbe this coming Saturday, 25th April, looking to carry this defensive solidity and clinical edge into another tough away fixture.
