Five match days into the 2025/26 season, the KCCA FC team has shown cohesion, but Shafik, one of the squad’s key creative outlets, has yet to fully settle into his rhythm. That changed completely in the clash against Cavalry FC on Friday.
The breakthrough for Shafik arrived as a moment of pure, decisive action.
Two minutes from the halftime interval, Joel Sserunjogi, who was constantly pulling the strings in the match, rattled the woodwork with a powerful shot, and Shafik Kwikiriza was quick to react, slotting home the rebound from close quarters to give KCCA a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the break. The relief and explosion of energy were evident, both for him and the fans.
Earlier in the 14th minute, Shafik carved open Calvary’s defense with a perfect, measured assist that took a deflection, setting up Lutalo to slot home the Cityzen’s second goal.

After the final whistle, the joy was clear in Kwikiriza’s voice.
I feel good about the win. We have worked as a team, we have been training for this and I am happy that I have performed like this. It is good that I have scored my first goal of the season, and it will push me more as a player and the team to go further.
This goal, far from being an endpoint, is the trigger for his next phase.
When asked about the areas he still needed to work on, Shafik named the very actions that had defined his match-winning day:
Scoring and assisting.
For Shafik Kwikiriza, the win and goal against Calvary were a promise ahead of the long season.
Now, fueled by that breakthrough goal and assist, his motivation is to turn flashes of brilliance into a season-long habit, driving himself and his team towards success.
KCCA FC visits Vipers SC next in the league on Friday, 7th November 2025, at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
