KCCA FC claimed bragging rights in the Kampala Derby, defeating rivals Express FC 1-0 in a tight affair decided by a second-half goal from Sammy Ssebaduka. The hard-fought victory sees KCCA move to eight points from ten matches as they look to climb the table.

The opening half was marked by close calls and stiff defenses, resulting in a 0-0 scoreline at halftime.

KCCA came close to breaking the deadlock early on when, in the 22nd minute, Saidi Mayanja set up Ivan Ahimbisibwe, whose first-time effort unfortunately flew high over the crossbar.

Later, in the 35th minute, Joel Sserunjogi tried his luck with a long-range shot, but his attempt drifted wide, confirming the stalemate as the teams headed for the tunnel.

KCCA’s coach Jackson Magera made a change after the restart, bringing on Mugume Ashraf for Umaru Lutalo, to find an attacking rhythm.

The physical intensity of the derby flared up in the 57th minute, resulting in cautions for both sides: Express’ Ashraf Mbazira and KCCA’s eventual match-winner, Sammy Ssebaduka, both received yellow cards.

KCCA made a decisive double substitution in the 68th minute, introducing Anyama Emmanuel and Alex Yiga for Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Shafik Kwikiriza.

The tactical changes paid immediate dividends just three minutes later. In the 71st minute, Joel Sserunjogi delivered a beautiful corner kick. The cross was cleverly flicked on by substitute Alex Yiga, falling perfectly for Sammy Ssebaduka, who made no mistake, tapping the ball home over the line to put KCCA ahead 1-0.

With ten minutes left, Express launched a dangerous comeback from a set piece, but KCCA Skipper Charles Lukwago produced a spectacular save, denying substitute Mikidad Ssenyonga’s free kick to preserve the precious one goal advantage.

In the 83rd minute, referee Oloya William gave yellow cards to KCCA FC’s bench goalkeepers, Mutwalibi Mugolofa and Humphrey Oyirwoth, for dissent.

KCCA rounded off their substitutions in the 87th minute, bringing on Peter Magambo and Sharifu Ssengendo for Saidi Mayanja and Ashraf Mugume.

The game ended 1-0, KCCA FC securing a crucial three points against rivals Express FC.

The victory takes KCCA FC’s tally to 8 points from 4 matches.

The Man of the Match award was fittingly handed to goal scorer Sammy Ssebaduka for his decisive contribution.

KCCA FC will look to maintain this momentum when they next face Calvary FC on October 31st, 2025.
