The Uganda U17 Men’s National Team, the Cubs, departed for a 10-day residential training camp in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday afternoon.

This camp marks the final stage of preparation before the team heads to Qatar for their historic maiden appearance at the FIFA U17 World Cup 2025, Qatar, in November.

For KCCA FC, the pride is huge. Five talented young players from our ranks have earned their places in the 26-man provisional squad, proving the quality of the KCCA FC Soccer Academy development program. These five teenagers are now just one step away from representing both club and country on the world’s biggest youth stage.

Steven Oyirwoth

The quintet;

  1. Steven Oyirwoth (Captain, KCCA FC Soccer Academy): The academy captain has already made a huge step, earning his senior team debut this season. He was also part of the Uganda squad at the AFCON U17 in Morocco in April 2025.
  2. Ashraf Lukyamuzi (Goalkeeper): The shot stopper has gained crucial experience by featuring on the senior team’s match day squad before. He was also part of the Uganda squad at the AFCON U17 in Morocco in April 2025.
  3. Brain Jjara (Midfielder): The small man with a big engine has established himself as a mainstay in the KCCA FC senior squad, with impressive development.
  4. Thomas Ogema (Midfielder): No stranger to the national setup, Ogema brings valuable experience, having been part of the previous AFCON U17 campaign in Morocco.
  5. Enock Bagenda (Forward): The tireless runner with huge potential and raw talent, ready to make his mark on the international stage. He was part of the U17 Uganda men’s team that played in the U17 CECAFA-AFCON zonal qualifiers in December 2024 and qualified for AFCON U17.

U17 Head Coach and Co-Coach at KCCA FC Brian Ssenyondo expressed great satisfaction with the team’s progress, particularly their attacking execution, before the departure.

I am impressed with how the players are adapting and showing maturity, especially in implementing our attacking principles in the final third. The improvement game by game gives us confidence heading into the World Cup. The international camp will give players valuable exposure and a chance to test themselves against different playing styles, boosting their confidence ahead of global competition.

The Dubai camp is designed to fine tune tactical readiness and mental sharpness against top youth sides, with the toughest decision picking the squad to the final 21 players set to be made at its conclusion.

Uganda is placed in a competitive Group K alongside formidable opponents Canada, Chile, and France. The Cubs’ historic tournament journey begins on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025, against Canada.

All of us at KCCA FC wish Lukyamuzi, Oyirwoth, Jjara, Ogema, and Bagenda the very best in the final phase of preparations ahead of the global stage.
