Fixture: Maroons FC 0-0 KCCA FC

Venue: Maroons Stadium, Luzira

Competition: Uganda Premier League

KCCA FC played out a goalless draw against Maroons FC on a scorching afternoon at the Maroons Stadium in Luzira. Despite several tactical adjustments and a push for a late winner, the Cityzens shared the spoils, a result that sees them slip to 3rd place in a tightly contested title race.

The first stanza was characterized by physical play and the taxing conditions of the scorching heat in Luzira. KCCA FC’s best opportunity of the early stages came in the 25th minute when Sammy Ssebaduka was fouled in a dangerous area. Herbert Achayi stepped up to take the resulting free kick, but his effort curled agonizingly over the crossbar.

Shortly after, Ivan Ahimbsibwe had the opportunity to score from a few yards, but his effort flew wayward with the goalkeeper to beat.

As the temperature soared, the referee signaled for a cooling break in the 29th minute to allow players to hydrate.

Following the restart, the game grew more aggressive. In the 38th minute, KCCA defender Fillbert Obenchan received a yellow card for a foul on Maroons’ winger Asaba, as the hosts looked to break the deadlock before the interval.

Goalless at the break.

After recess, the second half began with a clear intent from the KCCA technical bench to inject fresh energy into the side. A double substitution saw Brian Jjara and Derrick Nsibambi replace Saidi Mayanja and Ashraf Mugume.

The search for a breakthrough continued as Alex Yiga was introduced for Shafik Kwikiriza in the 65th minute. However, momentum remained elusive, and the referee called for a second cooling break in the 70th minute.

In a final throw of the dice, KCCA exhausted their bench by bringing on Emmanuel Anyama and Rogers Mugisha for Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Sammy Ssebaduka.

KCCA FC had the chance to get the winner but efforts from substitute Rogers Mugisha and vice captain Herbert Achayi both flew inches wide.

While the pressure mounted, Maroons’ defense held firm. In the 87th minute, Maroons’ Dickson Niwamanya was cautioned for a heavy challenge on Obenchan, but the resulting set-pieces failed to yield a goal.

The goalless draw means KCCA FC now sits third on the table. While they are level on 27 points with both Police FC and Vipers SC, they sit behind their rivals due to head-to-head disadvantages.
