
Kampala Capital City Authority Soccer Academy (KCCA SA) missed out on the chance to win their maiden title after suffering defeat to Soana soccer academy.
The junior side fell to Soana soccer academy 4-2 on penalties after normal time ended in a barren stalemate in the Fufa Juniors league final played at Kakindu stadium on Friday.
Playing in the final for a second successive time, KCCA soccer academy came as overwhelming favorites prior to the final but will have to rue the several chances missed in normal time.
Leading goal scorer Sadat Anaku, Ivan Asaba and skipper Jurua Francis were all culpable for missing on the day with latter failing to convert a late penalty in normal time.
As early as the 13th minute, midfielder Timothy Odong almost gave KCCA an early lead but his ferocious effort hit the side net.
Ivan Asaba made the donkey work dribbling through the Soana defence but Gerald Kawooya failed to tap home the well executed pass from Asaba faced with an empty goal.
He was later on withdrawn for Lubwama at the start of the second half as KCCA soccer academy continued the quest for the opener.
Ivan Asaba and Sadat Anaku had the chances to break the deadlock at the hour mark with two successive chances but failed to put the ball beyond Soana’s goalkeeper.
KCCA soccer academy were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute after a foul on second half substitute Ismail Wasswa but skipper Jurua Francis was unlucky with his effort going just wide.
The City lads would go on to lose 4-2 in the penalty shootout with Jurua Francis and Innocent Biyika missing their spot kicks.
Ivan Asaba was named the 2016/17 Most Valuable player while Sadat Anaku was the top scorer with 27 goals.
