Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club shook off a tough resistance from Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) Hippos to pick a vital 1-0 Victory and edge closer to their 12th Azam Uganda Premier League title.

Both sides were at equal strengths in the better part of first half, with Geoffrey Serunkuuma and Paul Mucureezi closely denied by the JMC goalkeeper.

Mucureezi came close in the third minute but his final tap was intercepted by the JMC custodian who stretched his right foot wide to deny the midfielder.

The midfielder set up Serunkuuma later but again the keeper blocked on the goal line off the leading top scorer’s left shot.

The already relegated hosts put up a spirited performance and even had a header flagged offside in one of the many attempts JMC Hippos had to kill off the game.

The manager made two quick changes at the start of the second period bringing on goal poacher Derrick Nsibambi and midfielder Tom Masiko for Noel Nasasira and Lawrence Bukenya respectively to change the pattern of the game.

The pressure piled up in the hosts zone with Mucureezi and Nsibambi reciting codes that could unlock the white wall, it finally paid off in the 68th minute.

Okot was released on the right flank and delivered in a tempting cross which Serunkuuma, instead of going for goal, brushed it over to an unmarked Nsibambi.

The striker controlled with his left and aimed his low shot beyond the keeper’s stretch to silence the decent crowds the Kakindu playground

The visitors stepped up their efforts with Viane Sekajugo instrumental in their left wing, but custodian Douglas Kisembo stood tall and was able to see out the game without conceding.

After his impressive debut in the FUFA Uganda Cup against former side Police, shot stopper Douglas Kisembo started in goal for the first time this season in the league, defender Peter Magambo also made his club debut while Noel Nasasira got his first start for KCCA FC

KCCA FC stretch the lead to five points ahead of SC Villa after 26 match days out, the champions face Kirinya Jinja SS on Saturday at the Philip Omondi stadium in before turning focus on the CAF Confederation Cup.
