Not the start Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) hopped for going into the opening game of the 2017 Total CAF Confederation Cup group A tie against FUS Rabat.

The Ugandan champions suffered a 3-0 defeat in a match played on Sunday morning at the Stade du FUS in the coastal town of Rabat.

Missing key players in skipper Denis Okot  and goalie Benjamin Ochan (both suspended), Muzamir Mutyaba and Paul Mucureezi through injury, KCCA FC manager Mike Mutebi still managed to assemble a squad good enough to compete.

But it was Rabat found the back of the net as early as the seventh minute when a cross from the left was headed on the woodwork by Brahim El Bahri.

The KCCA FC defense failed to clear their line and the same Brahim El Bahri eventually nodded home to start what was going to be a sad night for the 12 time Ugandan league champions.

With two strikers in Geoffrey Serunkuuma and Derrick Nsibambi starting upfront, there was little supply coming from the midfield that had Tom Masiko, Brian Majwega and Isaac Kirabira.

And it didn’t take long before FUS Rabat doubled their lead, this time through Yusupha O M Njie who tapped home a ground cross at the stroke of half time.

The second stanza started with KCCA FC more lively and eager to get back into the game. Ivan Ntege came on for the tired Brian Majwega, and his presence came with the physical element that had lacked in the first half.

But Rabat where determined and so good on their own turf that they kept on  dominating possession  and punished KCCA FC again.

It was Yusupha M O Njie intimidating cross that found substitute Karim Benarif, he controlled and shot past the helpless Douglas Kisembo in the KCCA FC goal with 13 minutes left on the clock.

KCCA will have to pick maximum points off Tunisian outfit Club Africaine on May 24th in Kampala to get back into the equation before hosting Rivers United of Nigeria on June 4.

KCCA FC starting XI: Douglas Kisembo, Timothy Awany, Paul Musamali, Habib Kavuma, Denis Rukundo (Noel Nasasira), Isaac Kirabira, Brian majwega(Ivan Ntege), Tom Masiko, Isaac Muleme, Geoffrey Serunkuuma, Derrick Nsibambi

Unused subs: Charles Lukwago, Mustafa Kizza, Lawrence Bukenya, Sadam Ibrahim Juma
