Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) progressed to the semifinals of the Uganda Cup to keep the hopes of winning the elusive league and Cup double.

Derrick Nsibambi scored the all important goal in extra time as KCCA edged past Police in a closely contested quarterfinal game played at Mandela National Stadium on Sunday.

Team manager, Mike Hillary Mutebi, was impressed with the performance from the boys despite the decisive goal coming late into the game.

“I’m happy with the display today because the players have started to master the way we want to play, being confident on the ball and dominating play,” the manager told www.kccafc.co.ug after ejecting Police on Sunday.

“You could see the changes within the game, from playing three defenders to the flat four then changes in the midfield up to the attacking line.”

Mutebi went ahead to indicate that the target at the moment is to make sure KCCA go all the way to the final and eventually win the cup that they last won in 2004.

“We still have two games to play in the semifinals against a bogey side in Express. Though the target is to win the Uganda Cup.”

“We must make sure we go past Express over the two legs before thinking about the finals,” he noted.

The manager was also full of praise for goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo, who put up a great performance against his former team including saving a penalty deep into extra time.

“I do not usually single out players but him (Kisembo Douglas) and Paul Mucureezi were fantastic today. We have three good goalkeepers and with the absence of Benjamin Ochan and Charles Lukwago, the young goalkeeper rose to the occasion,” added the manager before going on to confirm Kisembo will maintain his position between the posts in the coming games.

“He will continue to play because Benjamin Ochan will be suspended for our first game in the Total CAF Confederation Cup against FUS Rabat, so we shall give him more playing time to adapt to game situations.”

Nsibambi scored the lone goal of the game in extra time after normal time had ended in a barren stalemate.

The strike meant the sensational forward took his goal tally to seven in the competition and is currently the top scorer.

Focus now shifts to league action with a trip to Jinja town this Tuesday to take on relegated Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) Hippos.
