  • Full Time: KCCA FC 3-0 Maroons FC (Match Day 27)
  • Date: Thursday, 7th May 2026
  • Venue: MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
  • Time: 8:00 PM (EAT)

KCCA FC delivered a clinical performance in their penultimate home game of the 2025/26 season, dispatching Maroons FC 3-0 at MTN Omondi Stadium.

It was a night defined by tactical patience, the return of a Herbert Achayi, and the continued brilliance of the league’s most lethal marksman, Ivan Ahimbsibwe.

The win moves the Kasasiro Boys to 55 points with three games left to play in the league.

The opening exchanges were cagey but signalled KCCA’s intent. As early as the 10th minute, Shafik Kwikiriza teased the Maroons defense with a stinging cross, but Ashraf Mugume’s subsequent effort whistled over the bar.

The physical nature of the game became apparent midway through the half, with the referee Joshua Duula showing yellow cards to KCCA’s Gavin Kizito and Maroons’ Godwin Kitagenda to keep rising tensions in check.

KCCA nearly broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Sserunjogi’s well-whipped free-kick seemed destined for the top corner, only for Maroons’ custodian Tamale to produce a desperate, finger-tip parry.

Just as the halftime whistle loomed, the breakthrough arrived.

In the 45th minute, a long ball from Gavin Kizito fell to Ivan Ahimbisibwe, who this time turned provider, heading a ball into the path of Ashraf Mugume, and the latter headed home.

1-0 at the break. KCCA FC with the advantage right before the interval.

The second half saw Maroons attempt a resurgence.

In the 68th minute, KCCA goalkeeper Mugolofa Mutwalibi reminded the fans of his quality, pulling off a spectacular save to deny Raymond Walugembe what looked like a certain equalizer.

Tactical shifts soon changed the complexion of the game. The introduction of Herbert Achayi for Sharifu Ssengendo proved to be a masterstroke.

After a period of grit and a flurry of bookings for Maroons’ Odipio and Walugembe, Achai marked his return in sensational style.

In the 87th minute, Achayi, playing in midfield, collected the ball from 40 yards out, surged forward with trademark confidence, and unleashed a pinpoint strike from outside the box into the corner to make it 2-0.

The gloss was applied to the scoreline three minutes later. Ivan Ahimbisibwe, the league’s leading scorer, reinforced his credentials by finishing a neat pass from Mugume to make it 3-0 and increasing his goal tally to 13.

It was a fitting end for a side that dominated the closing stages, allowing for a triple substitution that saw Joao Gabriel, Axel Mezui, and Emmanuel Anyama take to the pitch for the final moments to replace Sammy Ssebaduka, Fillbert Obenchan, and Ivan Ahimbsibwe, respectively.

With a goal and an assist to his name, Mugume was the heartbeat of the KCCA midfield, orchestrating play and ensuring the tempo remained firmly in the hosts’ favour, and hence he was named the Player of the Match.

KCCA FC now turns its attention to the barracks in Bombo, where it will hope to replicate this level of composure against UPDF next Wednesday.
