The atmosphere at the MTN Omondi Stadium was electric as two of Uganda’s football heavyweights, KCCA FC and Vipers SC, renewed their rivalry. In a match defined by high intensity and late drama, the two sides ultimately shared the spoils in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
The hosts started with intent, nearly breaking the deadlock in the 11th minute. After Lazaro was brought down, Ashraf Mugume unleashed a signature curling free-kick that forced Vipers’ custodian, Kiggundu, into a desperate diving parry.
The tension rose just five minutes later when Sammy Ssebaduka appeared to be clipped inside the area. Despite loud appeals from the Lugogo faithful, the referee waved play on.
In the 22nd minute. Mutwalibi Mugolofa proved why he is highly rated, producing a fantastic save to deny Enock Ssebagala’s goal bound effort.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 34th minute. KCCA’s leading man, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, was brought down in the box by Bady Dasylva. This time, the referee Dick Okello pointed straight to the spot.

Ahimbisibwe shouldered the pressure, calmly slotting home from 12 yards to send the home fans into a frenzy.
The second half turned into a tactical and physical chess match, marked by a flurry of bookings as both sides fought for control:
KCCA’s Saidi Mayanja saw yellow for a challenge on Yunus Sentamu.
Vipers’ Enock Ssebagala and Taddeo Lwanga were both cautioned for persistent fouls on the lively Shafik Kwikiriza.
KCCA had multiple opportunities to double their lead and put the game away. Shafik Kwikiriza was the architect of most of the danger, but the linesman’s flag proved to be KCCA’s biggest enemy.
Both Kwikiriza and Ahimbisibwe were flagged offside in promising one on one situations during the 62nd and 76th minutes.
In the 86th minute, controversy struck again. Kwikiriza danced past Ashraf Mandela and appeared to be hauled down inside the box. To the disbelief of the KCCA technical bench, the referee once again waved play on.
As the clock ticked toward the 90th minute, it looked as though KCCA would hold on for a narrow victory.
However, in the 89th minute, a lapse in the KCCA defense allowed Beyuku Munsi enough space to strike. He made no mistake, firing home the equaliser to silence the home crowd and rescue a point for the Venoms.
A one-all draw at the MTN Omondi Stadium was a missed opportunity for KCCA FC, who will rue their missed chances.
In the end, both giants walk away with a point, keeping the title race as unpredictable as ever.
