Five key takeaways for KCCA FC from Round of 16 ahead of Uganda Cup Quarter Final draw
cityzens-stories—23 March 2026
KCCA enters the last eight in a rich vein of form, having won seven matches in a row across all competitions
KCCA FC progressed to the quarterfinal of the 52nd edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after outclassing Onduparaka FC 5-0.
With the draws for the quarter-final looming, here are five takeaways for the Cityzens ahead of the draw.
- The Anyama factor and bench depth
The standout headline from the round of 16 was Emmanuel Anyama’s clinical efficiency. Coming on against Onduparaka FC in the 66th minute, he scored with his first touch just three minutes later and added a second in stoppage time.
In Anyama, KCCA have a super sub capable of changing a game instantly. His brace takes him to 3 goals in this year’s Uganda Cup, making him the club’s top scorer in the competition. This depth is vital for the gruelling latter stages of the tournament.
2. A debut to remember for Axel Mezui
Gabon midfielder Axel Mezui’s long awaited debut was worth the wait. His debut was marked by physical presence and technical quality.
Axel teed up the play for Anyama’s first goal and provided the assist for the fifth via a pinpoint free kick.
Mezui is a threat on a dead ball. His 72nd minute free kick almost resulted in a debut goal, forcing a great save from Onduparaka’s goalkeeper Nadhir.
He adds a new dimension to the midfield; height, vision, and a specialised set piece delivery that KCCA has sometimes lacked.
3. Mayanja’s form resurgence
Saidi Mayanja played a crucial role in the first half. Before being substituted against Onduparaka, he was involved in almost every goal scoring opportunity.
He assisted Sammy Ssebaduka for the opener and scored the second himself with a header.
His corner kick set up the half-volley chance for Hassan Muhamud.
Mayanja’s timely return to form, scoring four goals and assisting four times in the last four matches for the club, has him as the creative engine for the team in the business end of the season.
4. Youths and firsts
The round of 16 match against Onduparaka saw two youthful players, Sammy Ssebaduka and Alex Yiga, score their first-ever Uganda Cup goals for KCCA.
Alex had scored a league goal against BUL FC away earlier in the season but had never scored in the Cup.
Ssebaduka is having a season of his life. In his second year at the club, the versatile Sammy has scored 5 goals in the league and one in the cup, bringing his total to six goals this season while featuring as a right and left back and right and left winger.
The integration of younger talents like Yiga and Ssebaduka into the scoring sheet suggests that the task to find the back of the net is not solely on strikers.
5. Clean sheets
KCCA FC is yet to concede a goal in this year’s Uganda Cup. Mutwalibi Mugolofa has played 270 minutes in this year’s competition and is yet to concede a goal.
