KCCA remain on course to clinch a maiden league and cup double after edging Police to set up a Uganda Cup semifinal against Express.

Derrick Nsibambi scored the all-important goal midway through the first period of extra time for a 1-0 win after the two teams had played out  a goalless 90 minutes in a game played at Namboole on Sunday.

Coach Mike Mutebi made five changes from Friday’s league game against Express with Douglas Kisembo, Timothy Awany, Tom Masiko, Ivan Ntege and Nsibambi coming into the side.
There was little goalmouth action in the first half with Kisembo required to make a sharp save from Rahmat Senfuka.

KCCA then proved the better team in the second half as they curved their hitherto resistant opponents open.

First, a mazy run by the indefatigable Paul Mucureezi saw Police goalkeeper Davies Mutebi parry his effort before keeping out another strike by the attacker.

Tom Masiko then side-footed wide from eight yards out after being set up by substitute Geoffrey Serunkuuma to leave the teams level after 90 minutes.

They were however not level for long. Another run from the Mucureezi this time resulted into the much needed goal as Nsibambi tapped home his low centre.

They continued to probe in the second period with Serunkuuma cutting the ball  back for fellow substitute Vincent Kayizzi who had his shot blocked.

They were now in the ascendancy and Serunkuuma should have hit after being teed up by Nsibambi but the striker’s finish went wide.

There would be another twist late on when referee Rajab Bakasambe had judged Dennis Rukundo to have pulled down Antony Bongole  in the box.

Rahmat Senfuka then stepped up only to see his penalty kick pushed onto the bar by former teammate Kisembo as KCCA held on much to the delight of the away supporters.

KCCA FC will play Express in the two legged semifinal at a date that is yet revealed by the FUFA Competition Committee, KCCA will host the first leg at the Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
