KCCA FC officially kicked off their 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Kitara FC in a highly anticipated Match Day One encounter at the Royals Park Stadium in Hoima.

The result sees the Cityzens secure a crucial point on the road against a determined home side, marking the beginning of the league’s new, multi phase format where every point in the first round is critical.

The fixture carried extra intrigue as KCCA FC co-head coach Brian Ssenyondo returned to face his former side, Kitara FC, setting up a fascinating technical duel against Kitara’s Head Coach, George Lutalo, and his counterpart, Wasswa Bosa.

The KCCA squad, led by returning goalkeeper and new captain Charles Lukwago, had made the long journey to Hoima a day prior, ready for the immediate test of the crowded Royals Park atmosphere.

The first half was a tense affair, characterized by aggressive midfield battles and cautious attacking play from both sides. Kitara FC, motivated by their home support, managed to draw first blood inside five minutes, giving them a vital lead going into the break.

Trailing after the interval, KCCA FC needed a spark, and the technical team turned to their bench.

Youngster Steven Oyirwoth replaced Gavin Kizito in the 46th minute.

Kitara’s Frank Tumwesigye and George Ssenkaba were cautioned for delaying restart and for a foul on Obenchan respectively.

The decisive moment came with the introduction of Sharifu Ssengendo for Ashraf Mugume in the 76th minute.

Ssengendo needed only three minutes to find the back of the net, netting the crucial equalizer for the visitors. The substitute’s well-struck effort, silenced the home crowd and brought KCCA FC level.

The remainder of the game saw both teams press for a winner, but the defenses held firm, resulting in a 1-1 scoreline at the final whistle.
